Child Support Action is an Independent private company based in Cheshire. This website exists to serve the needs of people who have problems with the CSA.

We try hard to be a non-biased organisation. We believe that the regular ‘cock-ups’ made by the CSA affect mothers and fathers. They affect parents with care and non-resident parents alike.

The CSA affect the lives of approximately two million parents – and 1.5 million children. Their mistakes are legendary.

In his 2004 report the head of the National Audit Office, Sir John Bourn, concluded that 28 per cent of the payments received by the CSA in 2003/2004 were incorrect – absent parents overpaid in the total sum of £10.7 million. There were underpayments made of £15.3 million – this being proof therefore that the agency’s inefficiency affects parents with care and non-resident parents alike.

We have substantial experience of CSA problems - the authors of this site have been successfully dealing with CSA claims for many years.

We exist to provide information and practical advice to parents.

In our experience most solicitors do not offer realistic solutions to CSA difficulties – advice is often expensive to obtain.

Because our site receives thousands of ‘hits’ we know that the most common problems with the CSA relate to delay, inefficiency and errors.

We believe in telling parents about their rights – rights that are often neglected by the CSA, for example: -

A right to claim a special payment from the CSA - the amount of special payments typically exceed the subscription value to our site.
Knowledge is power! Our site tells you about the powers the CSA have but which they seem reluctant to use –
e.g. under section 15 of the Child Support Act 1991 the CSA have the power to appoint inspectors who can obtain information to enable an assessment to be carried out –
e.g. the inspectors have the right to attend business premises and inspect books and documents to prove the financial circumstances of a non-resident parent.
e.g. Under the Child Support (Information, Evidence and Disclosure) Regulations 1992 the CSA have the power to obtain copies of bank statements. Further powers are available at appeal hearings.
Our subscriber service provides further detail about these rights and includes specimen letters to write.

Our motto is ‘do not give up’.
